Is Saul Alvarez avoiding Austin Trout and the other top contenders?
On September 15th Alvarez takes on yet another fighter not from the top of the light middleweight division. Josesito Lopez recently moved up to the welterweight division where he defeated Victor Ortiz. Lopez is to move up yet another division simultaneously to fight Alvarez for the light middleweight WBC belt. I'm left asking myself is Alvarez a prospect or world champion? You can't be both. Alvarez needs to be fighting the best and not hand picked fighters. Yes, he is a young champion and only 22 years of age, however, age shouldn't matter if you are a world champion. I'd like to ask Alvarez and Golden Boy why Alvarez is yet to face a top contender? We all know Alvarez is a very good fighter, but it's hard to gauge how good he really is due to the level of opposition he is currently facing. WBA World light middleweight title Austin Trout recently spoke to Ringnews24.com issuing Alvarez a challenge to fight him home or away, however Alvarez has yet to reply to any challenge issued by Trout. Trout, speaking to Ringnews24.com, had the following to say: “I would LOVE the opportunity to fight the winner of Lopez-Canelo for a unification bout. I would love to see the fight happen in Vegas, but I’m almost willing to go back to Mexico to make that opportunity happen." When asked if he thought that Alvarez was avoiding him, Trout replied. “I don’t fully think he himself is avoiding me, but I’m sure his handlers are. If I could get away with fighting the Kermit Cintron's and the Matthew Hatton's of the world on HBO, I would too, but it's time to step up Cinnamon. Time to find out what we're both truly made of!" Trout has already beaten Alvarez brother Rigoberto Alvarez in Mexico to win the WBA World light middleweight title. Alvarez stated after his brother's loss that he wanted to fight Trout to avenge his brother's defeat. Trout accepted the challenge but yet seventeen months have passed and Alvarez has hide away with fights against the likes of Matthew Hatton, Ryan Rhodes, Alfonso Gomez, Kermit Cintron and Shane Mosley while avoiding the current WBA champion Trout . There's "no doubt" about it that Alvarez is avoiding Austin Trout and the top contenders. Talking to BoxingScene.com, Saul Alvarez said, "I'm always prepared to fight anyone that is put in front of me, and if they put the devil in front of me tomorrow - I'll fight with him. I'm ready to fight anyone." Talk is cheap as Alvarez has proved by issuing Trout a challenge seventeen months previous to then not follow it through. If Alvarez wants to to be taken seriously he has to fight Trout and the other top contenders in his division and not shy away in the back ground by fighting soft touches. Saul Alvarez vs Austin Trout, Mexico vs USA, would be a mouth watering match up between two hungry undefeated fighters. Will this fight happen? I will let you the fans decide.
